Making a gnome can take quite some time. I start with a sketch, though you'll see the master copy already differs from this. The master is non-hardening clay. Next I make a flexible latex mould and a rigid support mould. Finally, the gnome clan takes shape in fast-casting concrete. Later these will be painted with the earthy tones favored by semi-secretive garden gnomes.
